Surat Al-Baqarah is the Surah of miracles and wonders. How many poor people have become rich because of Surat Al-Baqarah, how many sick people have been healed by Allah because of it, and how many sad people have been relieved by Allah because of Surat Al-Baqarah. It has many miracles and true stories in our lives that cannot be mentioned in this brief article. Surat Al-Baqarah is the longest Surah in the Holy Quran (286) verses. It is the first Surah revealed in Medina, so it is Medinan. Of course, it contains the Ayat Al-Kursi, the greatest verse in the Holy Quran.
It was revealed at different times in time and its name is Surat Al-Baqarah because of the story of the cow that was mentioned in it. A man from the Children of Israel was killed in the time of Moses, peace be upon him, and Allah ordered them to slaughter a cow to strike him with some of it to know who killed him. They asked Moses many questions about the description of that cow that Allah ordered them to slaughter so that they would not do it, but they did it in the end and knew the killer. It also contains the longest verse in the Holy Quran, the verse of debt (282).
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُ وَلْيَكْتُبْ بَيْنَكُمْ كَاتِبٌ بِالْعَدْلِ وَلَا يَأْبَ كَاتِبٌ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ كَمَا عَلَّمَهُ اللَّهُ فَلْيَكْتُبْ وَلْيُمْلِلِ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ وَلْيَتَّقِ اللَّهَ رَبَّهُ وَلَا يَبْخَسْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ كَانَ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ سَفِيهًا أَوْ ضَعِيفًا أَوْ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يُمِلَّ هُوَ فَلْيُمْلِلْ وَلِيُّهُ بِالْعَدْلِ
وَاسْتَشْهِدُوا شَهِيدَيْنِ مِنْ رِجَالِكُمْ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُونَا رَجُلَيْنِ فَرَجُلٌ وَامْرَأَتَانِ مِمَّنْ تَرْضَوْنَ مِنَ الشُّهَدَاءِ أَنْ تَضِلَّ إِحْدَاهُمَا فَتُذَكِّرَ إِحْدَاهُمَا الْأُخْرَىٰ وَلَا يَأْبَ الشُّهَدَاءُ إِذَا مَا دُعُوا وَلَا تَسْأَمُوا أَنْ تَكْتُبُوهُ صَغِيرًا أَوْ كَبِيرًا إِلَىٰ أَجَلِهِ ذَٰلِكُمْ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَأَقْوَمُ لِلشَّهَادَةِ وَأَدْنَىٰ أَلَّا تَرْتَابُوا إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونَ تِجَارَةً حَاضِرَةً تُدِيرُونَهَا بَيْنَكُمْ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَلَّا تَكْتُبُوهَا وَأَشْهِدُوا إِذَا تَبَايَعْتُمْ وَلَا يُضَارَّ كَاتِبٌ وَلَا شَهِيدٌ وَإِنْ تَفْعَلُوا فَإِنَّهُ فُسُوقٌ بِكُمْ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
Surat Al-Baqarah has great virtue. It was mentioned in the Sunnah that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said that Satan flees from the house in which Surat Al-Baqarah is recited. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: Recite Surat Al-Baqarah and Surat Al-Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection as if they were two great clouds defending the one who recited them in this world. He, may God bless him and grant him peace, also said: Recite Surat Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing and abandoning it is a regret, and magicians cannot overcome it.
It was mentioned in the Sunnah that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, made a young man a prince over the great companions because of his memorization of Surat Al-Baqarah.
What indicates that it is a great Surah is the presence of Ayat Al-Kursi, the greatest verse in the Quran, as we said, for the Prophet said that, and he also said: Whoever recites Ayat Al-Kursi when he sleeps, Satan will not come near him, and there is a protector from God over him until he wakes up.
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Let us not forget another thing, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said that the last two verses of Surat Al-Baqarah opened a door from heaven for these two verses alone that had not been opened before, and whoever recites the last two verses of Surat Al-Baqarah every night, they will suffice him. And protect it all night long from all evil and Satan as stated in the Sunnah. So we ask God to accept the Quran and its learning from us.
